Shawna Narayan completed her Bachelor of Science in Physics at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She is currently a Master of Science in Experimental Medicine student at UBC. After her first year at UBC, she learned how important mentorship and peer-support was in the transition to post-secondary education – so she founded Empower The Future. In her free time, Shawna enjoys watching Friends, drinking tea, and advocating for mental health causes.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Ashley graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2018 with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, and now works full-time for the federal government and part-time in the insurance industry. With a passion for empowering youth and those who come from marginalized backgrounds, Ashley aims to help others overcome various kinds of barriers through her volunteer work with Empower The Future. In her spare time, she likes to work out, read, and watch any TV show or movie that involves time and/or interdimensional travel!

ASHLEY PRASAD

ADMINISTRATION DIRECTOR

Josh Zivny graduated from the Justice Institute of British Columbia and aspires to become a career firefighter. He also completed the Red Seal trade program in Carpentry at North Island College. He hopes to share his experience with others to help them make informed decisions about post-secondary school. In his free time, he enjoys weightlifting, watching The Office, and playing Pokemon.

INTERNAL RELATIONS DIRECTOR

Adit is a 2nd year Pharmacology student at the University of British Columbia. He is passionate about helping youth and encouraging growth. He also loves being a part of a close team that helps guide and provide information to the next generation of student leaders. Adit enjoys spending time with friends whether its playing ping pong, board games or different sports like basketball.

Mohul is a 1st year student at Simon Fraser University studying business and economics.He volunteers to empower the youth to broaden the horizon of his networking skills and learn from a prestigious organization. In Mohul’s free time, he loves to play basketball, football, read about stocks or hang out with friends.

Kiran is currently a 4th-year psychology student at the University of British Columbia. She decided to volunteer with Empower The Future to improve on her leadership skills. In her free time, Kiran enjoys watching Netflix and hanging out with friends.

Amelia Choy is a Biology major from the University of British Columbia with work experience in the local community, post-secondary, and healthcare environment. She is excited to be a part of this team because of her passion for mentoring other students. In my her spare time, she enjoy nature photography and listening to music.

Niyoosha is a Physiology major at the University of British Columbia. She enjoys being involved and giving back to her community, especially in the areas of mentorship and professional growth. In Niyoosha's free time, you can find her playing volleyball, or taking a nap. 

Rajagokul graduated from Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering & Technology with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2017. hen he worked at CapeStart as a Customer Support Analyst providing tech support to one of their SaaS clients from the US

between 2018-20. Currently, he is in the Express Entry pool and trying his best to move to Canada the country of his dream, which is why he decided to work with Empower remotely from India and spread the importance of post secondary education, despite the time differences. In his free time, he loves solo traveling and connecting with new people, shaping his customer service skills, which he is SUPER passionate about!

Chantel Johnson is a second year undergraduate student at Simon Fraser University (SFU). As the first person in her family to pursue a post secondary education, Chantel decided to join Empower The Future after noticing the powerful impact her own mentors have had on her life. Chantel admits that for a busy university student she probably spends too much time re-watching Marvel movies and analyzing Taylor Swift lyrics.

Karim is pursuing his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver. He graduated from an advanced diploma program in Computer Programming from George Brown College, Toronto.

He got the opportunity to serve as a Website Manager with Empower The Future, and he has always wanted to volunteer his knowledge and skills, and give back to the community. Additionally, he hopes to gain some valuable experience for his career working with the team and contributing to its success.

He always aim for a perfect work and personal life balance. So in his personal time he loves to go for hikes, play tennis, go on bike rides, and watching movies and TV shows.

My name is Zaeema and I am in my second year at SFU. I am a science student pursuing a major in Kinesiology. Transitioning from high school to university can be challenging for various reasons. Luckily, I had many people to help me, which is why I would like to return the favour by helping other people through Empower The Future. I would like to share my experience, my challenges, my failures, and my victories with you to help make your transition and life afterwards a little bit easier.

She enjoys using her experience as a first-generation university student to help new students with their transition into post secondary.
